Passerelle des Arts, the mirror to nature
The Passerelle des Arts is a captivating, mirror-polished stainless-steel bridge that appears to float 12 metres above the trees. It stands as a striking symbol of the sweeping transformation of an entire district, linking Luxembourg’s European Quarter with the Museum of Modern Art. Its reflective surface allows it to blend seamlessly into the landscape, mirroring the sky and surrounding greenery.
This book traces the full creative journey behind the bridge—from the first sketches to the final installation, including the fabrication and meticulous polishing phases. It begins and ends with a striking portfolio of seasonal photographs of the structure by Greek, New York–based photographer Erieta Attali, while the construction and installation process is documented through the lens of Christian Aschman.
The choice of Splendorlux Mirror-coated paper for the cover reflects the bridge’s gleaming stainless steel and the surrounding vegetation mirrored on its deck. Green gilded page edges and matching endpapers echo the treetop canopy. A symmetrical, clean-lined typeface was chosen to evoke the sharp, architectural elegance of the bridge itself.
